What's Happening for the Holidays This Year

What a festive time of year it is! A favorite time for many, indeed. There are lots of area holiday festivals, parades, concerts and special events already taking place. Lots to do that all the family will enjoy. Whether you’re looking for a place to dine, things to do, or a comfortable place to stay over the holidays, look no further than North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. If you love trains (and who doesn’t!) check out the Winter Wonderland toy train Christmas display at the Myrtle Beach Mall at US 127 and SC 22 near Briarcliffe Acres. This free event is put on by the Grand Strand Model Railroaders’ Club and is open Mondays from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

North Myrtle Beach holiday events include the Christmas Tree Lighting, 5:30-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 at North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex, at S.C. 90 and Robert Edge Parkway; the Christmas Parade, 5:30-7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 on Main Street (843-281-2662); and the “All-City Cantata,” 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, and 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, 410 Sixth Ave. S., at Hillside Drive, for free with ticket from North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, 1521 U.S. 17 S., or call 843-281-2662.

“A Very Broadway Christmas,” Saturday, Dec. 3 at Broadway at the Beach, Myrtle Beach, with parade at 11 a.m. from Ripley’s Aquarium, on 29th Avenue North to WonderWorks. There will be musical performances and children’s activities from 1-4 p.m in center court. The 22nd annual Tree Lighting Celebration is at 6 p.m. with fireworks at 8 p.m. Free. Also, “New Year's Eve Fireworks Extravaganza,” 8 p.m. Dec. 31.

Bring the kids for Breakfast with Santa in North Myrtle Beach, for ages 5-12, being held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Dec. 10 at North Myrtle Beach’s J. Bryan Floyd Community Center, 1030 Possum Trot Road. $5. Register by calling 843-249-4157.

North Myrtle Beach Community Band Christmas concert, with “Tuba Carols” group, is being held at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 at North Myrtle Beach’s J. Bryan Floyd Community Center, 1030 Possum Trot Road. Free. For more info call 843-488-6742.

The 13th annual “Christmas Towne” Festival will take place from 2-6:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 in the events plaza outside Myrtle Beach Convention Center, at Oak Street and 21st Avenue North. Free admission includes parking. Sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

The annual “Lighting of the Menorah,” we take place at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 24 – the first night of Hanukkah – in Valor Memorial Garden at The Market Common, with Rabbi David Weissman.
